Inspiration comes from the Fight – It is not about winning | Inspiration

There are times in our lives when we will work hard to accomplish something or reach a goal. No one wants the outcome to be one that ends negatively or in

someone else’s favor. But let’s be honest…it happens.

Life is not always easy. It comes with heartbreak and personal sacrifice. It comes with rejection and despair. It comes with defeat and hopelessness. For some, those things are enough to break a spirit. To walk away. To give up.dont-be-sad

There are some things that inspire me more than others, but nothing will ever inspire me more than the willingness to stay and finish something.

My favorite inspirational movie is “Rocky” with Sylvester Stallone. Maybe it was the movie of my generation that kept its message of perseverance close to me. Perhaps, I found a little bit of me in the “Italian Stallion” and allowed the theme to remind me who I am.

In most sports, there is a beginning and an end. Some of the greatest endings are come from behind wins that people never could have imagined. Just as one team is celebrating another team is stunned as they process “what just happened.”ice-hockey-spirit-of-winning

Most people remember the score. It’s how we keep stats and know the outcome when it is all said and done.

However, that’s not the entire story.

That’s not even the best part of the story.

No one is inspired by the ending and by now, people have even forgotten how it all got started.

What inspires us all is the fighting spirit that remains throughout the struggle. The one that keeps at it, the one that doesn’t know the meaning of “quit.” The one that is ready to take on whatever comes next.

We’ve all encountered rough patches in our lives. Some have lasted longer than others. Some seemed impossible to imagine. Some we don’t even know how we would get through them.reflection-smile-forcebilly

No matter where our journeys have taken us and where we go next, the glory isn’t found in the victory…it is found in the fight.

That point in our lives when we get knocked down and just as we are trying to make sense of our new reality, something else runs us over. The dishwasher breaks. Two days later, you lose your job. At the end of the week, your mom is diagnosed with cancer. You get to the point where you just have to laugh at whatever is trying to break you and your comments become more cynical with, “Is that all you’ve got?” and “Bring it…I dare you!”reflection-smile-forcebilly

Once you have all of that in front of you, you could choose to let it bog you down with intense stress and unbelievable pressure. Your entire life has to change. In a hurry. You are in scramble mode. There is no rulebook for this kind of stuff so you are just going to have to do your best by making it up as you go along.

From deep within, you find this power you never knew you had, but know it is the only thing that will help get you through…and when you harness it, it becomes not only your saving grace, but is the very place where your fierceness resides. It’s there.beauty-feel-of-life

That power is what give you the strength and courage to stand back up again. To move forward, even slowly at times. It is pure and honest. It reminds us all of what inspiration looks like and why we need it so.  Sometimes, that force gives us something to believe in and in it, our hope is restored for all things magical and miraculous.

In the end, it is not the score that matters. It is not the outcome people will recall.

It is the fight that inspires us all. It cements our belief that we are capable of much more than we ever thought possible so that when the battles come again, we know what it will take to get through them.
