First of all, let me say that we weren’t given handouts as young adults. Our parents didn’t give us huge amounts of money to go traveling and have an easy life. We weren’t given easy passes because we were a certain skill color or because we went to expensive universities.

My husband was the only one with a college degree, working horrid corporate jobs. And my only income option was to work a part-time minimum wage job because I had never finished college. We were terrified because we both knew we wanted to do a lot with our lives, but we just weren’t sure where to start or where to look.

That is until early 2015 when we decided we’d look for ways to work online so we could travel full-time. And I’m gonna let you know something, I loved the idea, but I had no real motivation at first. I honestly didn’t believe that I had what it took to create an online income. Many options didn’t sound like something I could do and we didn’t have a lot of money to sink into online courses that would teach me new skills. And whenever I read how-to articles, they weren’t very helpful.

Let’s just say that without some real help, success would be very hard to come by.

But back in November of 2015, I heard an online interview that changed everything. It was the Side Hustle Show with Nick Loper and he was interviewing Rosemarie Groner from The Busy Budgeter. Here she was giving real actionable advice, and it was about something I had pushed off to the side early on. Blogging. I had NEVER wanted to blog. I wasn’t tech savvy and everyone made it sound like it would take years to make real income from blogging.

But here was Rosemarie who had done it in a year; the only person who could inspire me to start blogging. And in three months time after launching my blog, I had made $3,000 and helped my husband to quit the next month so we could travel full-time.

We had decided on Mexico since we wanted to come back to the states for Christmas with family in a few month and it would cost a lot less than traveling all the way from Thailand. And let’s just say that Mexico was so much better than I had expected. I knew it would be beautiful, but there was so much to do and the people were amazing.

So what did I do differently with blogging so I could quickly afford this type of lifestyle? Well it started with the idea of using Pinterest for viral curating. This was the key to everything.

Now I could go on about how to use Pinterest for blogging and why it really is the best site when it comes to promoting your blog and getting amazing traffic. However, I’ll leave a link below that will explain all of that for you. And I PROMISE, this isn’t a cliche how-to post. This will give you real guidance on how to start a blog and get amazing traffic.

How I Made $3,000 From Home Last Month

Now what is viral curating? Well curating, in my own definition, is when you gather up some of the best ideas and present them in a roundup for many viewers to look through. And on Pinterest, I found that this was something that could become viral if done right.

Now not all of my posts are curated content, however, I knew that it could be a great way to get big traffic to my site fast. And I was right.

In the last week of May, a post took off over night. They were weight loss hacks I had curated from great bloggers, and I had never expected the reach it would get so fast. I made $500 in May and that was my 2nd month of blogging. And with this new strategy, I knew I could make more.

So I began to study what others were doing who made curated posts. And I quickly realized that they were posts that hit pain points. People want big and small problems fixed now. They want something that’ll offer them a quick hack or a tip that’ll give them big change over time. So I started to make posts that would improve little and large aspects of their lives. Whether it was a curated post on some of the best get out of debt tips or 5 amazing home cleaning hacks (as a few examples).

You have to study what readers on Pinterest are interested in. Find bloggers such as One Crazy House, The Krazy Coupon Lady, or DIY Joy who find awesome ideas and pattern yourself off of them.

Promise a change in some aspect of the reader’s life, big or small, and deliver. That is how you draw many readers to your site quickly.

Again, you don’t have to make every post your write a curated post, but if you can find great viral ideas/content that works with your readership, then I STRONGLY suggest that you at least do one to two curated posts a week.

Lastly…

When creating your pin image (whether it’s in Photoshop or on Picmonkey), be sure to do two things. First, add the images you used (if it’s a roundup post on hacks or DIY projects) in your post so that you can attract potential readers. Second, create a title that grabs viewers attention. I like to study sites like Buzzfeed who have titles that create a sense of urgency or curiosity.

This strategy of using viral curating to get viewers to my site is what took my blog off the ground. Now I get that many of you may want to take things a bit slower on your blog and/or roundup posts just aren’t your blog’s style. And that’s perfectly fine. But if you’re in a spot where you need a better income due to a toxic job or a life situation, then this is a great tactic to try.

I really believe that this is a great strategy to use when it comes to seeing your blog take off fast, and if you have any questions about it, please feel free to ask in the comments down below. I’ll be glad to answer you all!
